Chaos;Child, Episode 11

After already bordering on ridiculous over the phone last week, daddy dearest has now entered full comic book villain mode. Strapped to his evil delusion device, he makes his entrance on stage spewing lines about how guys who hit girls don’t get dates, while dropping the young woman he just killed. I’m guessing this was supposed to be ironic. Luckily, the theater conveniently built on the site of the old planetarium is the perfect backdrop for his insufferable speeches. Apparently,… Continue Reading →

ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept., Episode 11

These days, when I look at you, I can’t tell if you’re getting dragged into things, or if you’re prying into the whole mess. After 100 years of peace, Dōwā’s guards have lost their edge. Their clumsy assassination attempt is foiled by Nino, who spends his first visit to Furawau district checking out the local emergency services after taking a bullet for Jean. The fact that he didn’t die softens the cliché somewhat, and ACCA at least tried to give… Continue Reading →

Chaos;Child, Episode 10

I could just as well copy and paste my review from last week and change the rating, since everything that didn’t come together then has fallen apart completely now. Before we get to the really bad stuff, let’s look at Taku’s imaginary memories with Onoe, which weren’t too shabby despite the almost comically severe neglect by his parents. Poor Taku ended up projecting his loneliness onto Onoe who had it even worse in his mind, with parents who called her… Continue Reading →

ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept., Episode 10

Jean’s brief visit to Spade’s home district, Yakkara, brought no extra screentime for the chief officer we know so little about, but ACCA‘s reluctance to show us more about the man might actually result in some exciting developments. Before we can get to these, we need to take a closer look at our prince’s time in the mining district of Pranetta. From a design perspective, Pranetta is pure delight – an underground city underneath a barren desert land, where people… Continue Reading →

Chaos;Child, Episode 9

Yui is dead, Kurusu is Senri, and now Onoe is Taku’s real-booted imaginary friend? In and of itself, this is a pretty brilliant twist, and while it comes as a jaw-dropper, it doesn’t feel like something pulled out of thin air for shock value, especially seeing how it echoes a certain reveal in Chaos;Head. The references to Chaos;Child‘s predecessor are getting stronger as we hit the home stretch, which always keeps leading back to the Shibuya earthquake 6 years ago. While… Continue Reading →
